IE3 requirements to cover smaller motors from 1 Jan, 2017 NORD DRIVESYSTEMS portfolio already exceeds EU Ecodesign stipulations

Abingdon – UK: As of 1 January, 2017, IE3-grade energy efficiency will be compulsory in the European Union for mains-operated electric motors in the rated power range from 0.75 kW to 375 kW. This extension to smaller motor sizes is based on the Regulation (EC) 640/2009 implementing Ecodesign Directive 2009/125/EC. In early 2016, NORD DRIVESYSTEMS already started offering motors rated 0.12 kW and higher according to IEC 60034-30-1 IE3 efficiency and NEMA MG1 Premium Efficiency. Thus, the manufacturer exceeds the legal requirements, specifically in the small performance range. These units make up the bulk of all motors currently in operation. In order to make the changeover easy for machine and plant manufacturers, the dimensions of NORD’s IE3 motors remain largely identical to those of IE2 models, allowing for retrofitting without any modifications to machines and plants. Moreover, the NORD portfolio includes motors featuring an IE4 or Super Premium Efficiency rating that are inverter-controlled by default. These solutions achieve even higher efficiency levels. NORD provides comprehensive information and expert guidance in selecting motors for worldwide use and designing future-proof systems and plants.
