Having chosen to study at the Brown University in the United States, Mechanical Engineering undergraduate Cameron McKie’s passage through the academic system has been eased by a grant from the Mason Trust towards the cost of books.
The Mason Trust, founded in 2008 by successful businesswoman Yvonne Mason, who has over 25 years’ experience in the marine industry, has the express aim of helping young people between the ages of 12 and 25 living in Norfolk and Suffolk, to reach their full potential. The Trust works with schools and places of further education to forge stronger links between education and industry, to give students the widest choice when deciding on a career.
She comments: “We are pleased to be able to help Cameron in a small way to achieve his dream. He chose Brown University because the flexibility of the course suited him, and because it is also allowing him to pursue his sporting interests while studying.”
The Mason Trust was also able to come to Cameron’s aid by sourcing a summer work placement at SafeSTS, an international lightering company which is one of a group of companies founded by Yvonne Mason. Cameron acknowledges that the experience improved his administrative skills and gave him a perfect insight into the running of a successful marine business.
“Ideally, I would like to get an entry level engineering position when I graduate, and build my career within the company,” comments Cameron. “However, I have another 2 years of my degree course to complete and to decide exactly which field really interests me.”
If anyone has an ambition or idea for which they require some assistance with funding, The Mason Trust may be able to help. Visit www.themasontrust.org for further information.
