RED Engineering has won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation in recognition of its ground-breaking approach to designing and delivering complex engineering challenges.
The Queen’s Award is one of the highest honours that can be bestowed on a UK-based company and is given annually to those who have realised outstanding success and achievement.
RED Engineering (formerly RED Marine) provides consultancy, bespoke equipment and testing services for clients in the offshore oil and gas, renewables and nuclear decommissioning sectors.
The firm’s outstanding innovation in the fast track design, build and testing of offshore clamps was singled out in the award citation.
Recent projects, including two subsea umbilical clamps to facilitate the development of the world’s deepest subsea production facility, have demonstrated both exceptional technical expertise and an innovative approach to project delivery.
Although specifically covering offshore clamping technology it was the company’s project execution capabilities that were specifically recognised by the award – the ability to design and deliver ground-breaking equipment on a fast track basis.
It also marked out RED Engineering’s combination of a team of world-class engineers, strong supplier relationships and an in-house test facility at its Hexham premises, which enables it to accelerate the design, build and test of new equipment, as key differentiators in a competitive global market.
Joe Orrell, managing director, who was celebrating the success with the RED Engineering team at Newcastle’s historic Swing Bridge, said:
“We are delighted to have been recognised in this way. The Queen’s Award is one of the highest accolades a company can win and rewards the hard work and effort that has gone into providing our customers with fast turnaround, innovative solutions that deliver tangible benefits.
“It’s a fantastic endorsement for the quality and added value of our services, which appeal to a broad number of sectors where time and cost-saving solutions are critical for clients.
“After more than 50 years, the Award continues to be a highly respected and relevant achievement, and I’m sure it will become a significant mark of excellence for us as we grow and expand into new sectors.”
RED Engineering, which employs 20 people and has annual sales of more than £3m, has rebranded in a move that now reflects demand for its expertise beyond the offshore oil and gas marine sector.
The firm, which counts TechnipFMC, GE Oil & Gas and Subsea 7 among its clients, is seeing strong demand as it continues to develop its presence in renewables and nuclear decommissioning alongside other new sectors. More at www.redengineers.co.uk
