The independent pump training courses, which the BPMA have been successfully running since the mid 1990’s, have helped equip many hundreds of individuals with the knowledge and skills required to assist pump companies to stay one step ahead of the competition.
As part of its ongoing commitment to this important aspect of its service provision, the BPMA has embarked on a process of securing CPD accreditation across its full training programme.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the term used to describe the learning activities professionals engage in to develop and enhance their abilities. It enables learning to become conscious and proactive, rather than passive and reactive.
Engaging in Continuing Professional Development ensures that both academic and practical qualifications do not become out-dated or obsolete; allowing individuals to continually ‘up skill’ or ‘re-skill’ themselves, regardless of occupation, age or educational level.
The CPD Certification Service was established in 1996 as the leading independent CPD accreditation institution operating across industry sectors to complement the Continuing Professional Development policies of professional institutes and academic bodies. It provides support, advice and recognised independent CPD accreditation compatible with global CPD principles.
The BPMA provides five ‘Lecture to Student’ based courses, and these recently updated training modules are the first to achieve CPD Accreditation.
These courses cover the following key topics:-
- Pumping Fundamentals
- Pump Selection
- Pump Testing
- Pump Systems,
- Hydraulic Design of Centrifugal Pumps (shortly to be accredited)
CPD combines different methodologies to learning, such as training workshops, conferences and events, e-learning programs, best practice techniques and ideas sharing. All of this focuses an individual to improve and to have a clear and effective professional development.
This structured, practical and methodical approach to learning helps employers across industries to keep key staff, and develop the skills & knowledge in their organisations to maintain a sustainable and competitive advantage.
BPMA also provide two e-learning courses which are independently accredited by the National Open College Network (NOCN):-
- Introduction to Pumping Technology
- Essentials of Pumping Technology
These two courses are shortly to be reviewed by CPD and will achieve full CPD accreditation within the next 4 -6 weeks.
The final BPMA course to get the CPD treatment will be the ‘Certified Pump System Auditor’ scheme. The CPSA scheme is an industry specific professional qualification developed by the BPMA. Its objective is to help improve the levels of professionalism in the sector by creating a universally recognised and respected “standard” for individuals assessing the performance of a pumping system.
