The National Engineering & Construction Recruitment Exhibition returns this month to the NEC, Birmingham on the 20 & 21 April

Jobs with Jaguar Land Rover, Amazon and Ocado among the latest opportunities that will be on offer at the event

Despite the current trepidations regarding the UK’s economic landscape: the engineering sector is thriving. UK firms report a growing demand, with more than half of employers (51%) intending to increase their engineering and technology departments over the next three years (IET survey 2017).

Those looking to take their next step up the career ladder will be able to discover hundreds of vacancies from many of the UK’s top engineering and construction companies at a national event, supported by The Telegraph and Engineering Council.

The National Engineering & Construction Recruitment Exhibition, taking place 20 & 21 April at NEC, Birmingham, delivers a vast range of career opportunities to suit all, from talented graduates to skilled engineering and construction professionals.

Free to attend, visitors can meet face to face with industry-leading employers to discuss current job openings and application tips. There will also be complimentary access to expert advice and employment workshops designed to provide a career boost for all levels of experience.

Major organisations exhibiting include Jaguar Land Rover, Ocado, Tesco, Colas, Amazon, Rockwell Collins, LM, Diamond Light Source, Babcock and Owen Mumford. Many of these will deliver free presentations offering a unique, behind-the-scenes glimpse into their current projects and career opportunities.

For a helping hand on progressing onto the next career stage, experts at the Careers Advice Lounge will offer personalised one-to-one guidance. At the Interview Clinic, visitors will come away with an effective interview preparation checklist as well as a refresher on how to tackle common interview questions.

Engineering and construction professionals can meet with representatives from key engineering institutions at the Professional Development Hub for advice on the benefits of professional registration.

The popular Women in Engineering Forum, supported by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES), takes place on the first day of the event, offering women at all stages of their career the platform to share experiences, network with fellow female engineers and learn about exciting new developments within the industry. This year, two inspiring female engineers will be sharing their personal career experiences and give first-hand advice to those still considering their career path.

A free, high-level conference will also be taking place across both days of the event. The Engineering Skills & Innovation Conference: Improving Lives will discuss the complexities of our society and how engineering helps to advance the world around us. Thought-leaders from the sector will discuss a range of topics, from driverless cars to medical advancements.

Students from across the UK are invited to take part in the Engineering Challenge for the chance to win £500. This anticipated feature enables university teams to test their knowhow, boost their CV and demonstrate technical knowledge and team working in front of recruiters.

John Hancock, Managing Director of Venture Marketing Group, organisers of The National Engineering & Construction Recruitment Exhibition, explains: “This show has bred some real success stories with visitors meeting and then winning jobs with engineering and construction organisations. It has also played a major part in introducing visitors to roles they may not have previously considered. Meeting face-to-face with exhibitors delivers a real insight into what opportunities they have to offer and what they are looking for in an ideal applicant.”
