RS Components introduces new series of power supplies approved for use in medical markets

RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE: ECM), a global multi-channel provider of industrial and electronic products and solutions, has announced availability of of 11 new series of power supplies from TRACO Power that meet the demands of high-growth medical markets.

These embedded switch-mode power supplies feature a reinforced double I/O isolation system, according to the IEC/EN/ES 60601-1 third-edition medical safety standards, including 2 x MOPP (Means of Patient Protection) approval for operating altitudes up to 5000m. In addition, the units’ earth leakage current is less than 100μA, making them suitable for BF (body floating) class insulation applications. The units also operate in compliance with the medical EMC emission and immunity levels, according to latest standard IEC60601-1-2 fourth edition, and risk management for medical devices, according to ISO14971.

The TRACO Power units offer a very wide range of power ratings, including 13.2/15W (TPP15A-J, TPP15-J, TPP15A-D and TPP15-D series), 20/30W
(TPP30A-J, TTP30-J, TPP30A-D and TPP30-D), 40W (TPP40/A), 65W (TPP65/A), 100W (TPP100/A), 150W (TPP150/A) and 450W (TPP450/A).

Key electrical features of the supplies include: a wide range of voltage outputs – from 3.3V DC up to 48V DC for the 20W to 40W units, and from 12V DC up to 48V DC for the higher rated units; plus high power efficiencies ranging up to a maximum of 91.5% for the 30W TPP 30-J series, for example, which also delivers a high power density from a small-footprint package measuring only 1.5 x 3.95 inches.

Other features include: full load operating temperature range covering –40 to +60°C with the ability to handle temperatures up to +85°C with 50% load derating; universal AC input from 85 to 264V AC; enclosure options including open frame, encapsulated or metal enclosed packages, depending on the supply’s power rating; and a five-year warranty.

The TRACO Power supplies for medical applications are shipping from RS in the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions.
