Reliable backup power for care home residents

To ensure its residents have access to a consistent power supply, leading care home provider The Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution Care Company (RMBI Care Co.) turned to DiPerk Power Solutions to provide backup power equipment. During the upgrade of two existing homes and new build works on one new care home, DiPerk managed the production and delivery of three Perkins®-powered generators.

RMBI Care Co. is aware of the importance of standby power in its homes and therefore wanted to install generators in more of its homes. After a competitive tender process, RMBI Care Co. chose DiPerk, who installed 150 kVA generators at The Tithebarn care home in Liverpool and Barford Court care home in Hove, both powered by a Perkins 1106A-70TAG2. DiPerk is also in the process of delivering a new 180 kVA generator, powered by a Perkins 1106A-70TAG3, to the newly built Lord Harris Court care home in Berkshire.

All three generators are larger than needed, so they can take the full electrical load of the buildings immediately. As part of its service, DiPerk is also carrying out engine maintenance at eleven RMBI Care Co. homes.

“A loss of power is highly inconvenient to most residents and, if it is prolonged for more than a few hours, it means we may have to take residents out of the home,” said Marc Nelson-Smith, Property Director at RMBI Care Co. “DiPerk’s standby power solutions have meant that residents have been unaffected by power cuts.”

“It is encouraging to see leading providers like RMBI Care Co. opting for Perkins powered technology, as it reinforces the quality of the products and of our service,” explained Paul Robinson, Product Support Sales Manager at DiPerk Power Solutions. “Working alongside trusted equipment manufacturers and service providers, we were able to project manage the entire turnkey application to an extremely high standard. We will continue to support RMBI Care Co. as part of a Planned Preventative Maintenance contract, to perform an annual major and minor service and load bank testing at their sites with stand by power generators.”

RMBI Care Co. opened its first care home in 1850 in East Croydon. Today, the charity operates 18 care homes across England and Wales, providing a home for over 1,000 residents, while supporting many more.

Headquartered in Peterborough, with a facility in Dublin and engineers nationwide, DiPerk is the only authorised distributor of Perkins® engines and parts in the UK and Ireland.
