Turn gut feelings into true insights

~ Sandvik Coromant launches CoroPlus® Productivity Improvement Program ~

To fulfil growing demand for industrial productivity, Sandvik Coromant has launched CoroPlus® PIP(Productivity Improvement Program), a service to help its customers identify pain points in production. Combined with a consultancy service delivered by Sandvik Coromant specialists, the program uses data to deliver fact-based suggestions for improvements to a production cell or machine. CoroPlus® PIP is currently available in the United Kingdom and the Nordic countries.

Historically, plant managers have based production cell and machining decisions on the initiative and experience of its workers, rather than fact. However, this method can lead to misplaced investments or missed chances for improvements. CoroPlus® PIPhas been developed to remove any opportunity for error. The program turns gut feeling into true insights.

The launch coincides with a significant shift of priority in the manufacturing realm. Today’s plant managers are under increasing pressure to remain competitive, reduce inefficiencies and optimise their production. CoroPlus® PIP has been developed to provide data-led reassurance on how to achieve these goals, with the support of Sandvik Coromant’s specialists.

“We start the process by identifying the pain points in production,” explained Kristian Busk, Lean Specialist in North Europe. “From there, we install machine monitoring solutions to bring insights based on real-time, which we can access remotely to provide an in-depth analysis of a complete cell, right down to the cutting tool.”

Following installation, CoroPlus® PIP is supported by a series of weekly meetings which can be held in person or remotely. By gathering further information on the unique requirements of each production cell, bespoke recommendations to resolve identified pain points and other improvements can be provided.

“CoroPlus® PIP offers an opportunity to lower costs and reduce inefficiencies,” continued Busk. “But, while doing so, the manufacturing process also becomes more sustainable. By making sure machines run as efficiently as possible and cutting down machining time, the program can eliminate waste and reduce energy consumption. Not least, major assets — the people on site — will have better working conditions knowing the machine processes are smooth, stable and predictable.”

Along with CoroPlus® PIP, a consultancy service has been developed to deliver Lean A-Class training and dedicated SMED (Single-Minute-Exchange of Dies) and 5S workshops, with the objective to help customers to reduce changeover times and improve manufacturing processes.

This service allows customers to set-up their own lean main set, with training sessions on what can be achieved with just a handful of tools. This creates a new way for customers to work with Sandvik Coromant, helping to reduce setup times and batch sizes, while workshops ensure jobs are conducted accordingly.

Additionally, Sandvik Coromant is using lean management and visual management on the shop floor. This process includes using a visual representation of the facility on a whiteboard or Kaizen board to allow operatives to follow the production in detail. Using this methodology, a customer can ensure the flow in a value chain is not interrupted by bottlenecks or other disturbances.

These services are available to both new and existing Sandvik Coromant customers in the United Kingdom and Nordic countries. For more information visit www.sandvik.coromant.com/en-gb/products/coroplus-pip. If you are interested in booking a consultation, request a quotationonline.
