ULMA Packaging announces retirement of longstanding employee

Leading packaging machinery manufacturer, ULMA Packaging, has announced the retirement of employee, Dave Berriman, a respected figure in the company and the wider packaging industry. After a remarkable career at ULMA spanning 31 years, Dave is stepping down from his dual roles as technical sales support manager and product manager for the HFFS line, marking the end of an era.

Dave’s journey in the industry began at Adpak/Wrapid, where he was employed as a technical manager before ULMA decided in 2002 to open its UK subsidiary. Known for his innovative approach and calm manner, Dave has been instrumental in maintaining ULMA’s high standards and competitive edge over the years.

His “fluid working system” has been a testament to his ability to juggle multiple responsibilities seamlessly, earning him the reputation of being a master at keeping all the plates spinning. His pragmatic approach and innate ability to resist stress have been invaluable in the fast-paced environment of packaging machinery.

Among his notable achievements is pioneering the use of trayless mince in flow wrappers – a sustainable practice that has since become revolutionary in the industry. Dave’s talent for designing and installing comprehensive packaging lines has also been a hallmark of his career, showcasing his expertise and commitment to innovation. His dedication has been central to ULMA’s growth in the UK, helping establish the company as a market leader in the packaging sector.

As Dave embarks on this new chapter, he plans to devote time to his family and pursue his passions for golf and supporting Leeds United, where he was recently treated to a surprise farewell party during a home game at Elland Road.

James Couldwell, ULMA Packaging’s managing director, said: “Dave has made a huge contribution to the success and growth of ULMA and we will miss his energy, enthusiasm and problem-solving abilities. His retirement is well deserved, and we wish him a long and happy one.”
