The cutting edge of medical micromotors

~ EMS to exhibit FAULHABER motors at Medical Technology Ireland ~

To help engineers streamline the process of specifying precision motors for medical devices, specialist DC motor supplier Electro Mechanical Systems (EMS) will be attending Medical Technology Ireland at the Galway Racecourse on 25 and 26 September. At the event, EMS will provide exclusive demonstrations of FAULHABER motors, including the compact and highly precise brushless DC servo motors from the BX4 series.

The BX4 series uses 4-pole technology to deliver high torque and speed rigidity, while guaranteeing low vibration and noise levels, ideal for medical applications. Motors in the series are available in either 22 mm or 32 mm diameter, with length options ranging from 33.8 mm to 70.2 mm to ensure compatibility with various gearhead and lead screw attachments. Optional analogue Hall sensors enable stable control in extremely confined installation spaces, such as surgical robots.

To benefit visitors looking for motors for demanding, high accuracy positioning tasks, EMS will present FAULHABER’s range of miniature DC stepper motors, which can accelerate extremely quickly and retain their position even without a constant power supply. FAULHABER offers a huge range of stepper motors, with diameter sizes ranging from 6 mm to 66 mm and steps per revolution ranging from 20 to 200 to meet a range of user requirements.

“Medical technology has to strike a challenging balance, requiring optimal efficiency, speed and accuracy in an ever-decreasing amount of space,” explained Dave Walsha, sales manager at EMS. “Selecting the right motor is crucial, which is why we offer such an extensive range of DC motor types and sizes to suit a variety of medical applications. With the range of products available from EMS, engineers do not have to compromise on either accuracy or size, both of which are vital in the MedTech sector.

“EMS has the exclusive distributorship of FAULHABER products in the UK and Irish markets,” added Walsha. “This event is therefore a great opportunity to see them for yourself and learn about the benefits they can bring to your application.”

Ireland is a global hub for the medical technology sector, housing 14 of the 15 principal MedTech companies in the world and generating eight per cent of the country’s exports, according to IDA Ireland. As Europe’s second largest and fastest growing medical device design and manufacturing show, MedTech Ireland is an unmissable event for those developing medical devices. This year’s two-day conference will see exhibits from over 300 global suppliers showcasing the latest innovations in medical technology products and solutions.
