Kemtile, a division of Stonhard, has successfully completed a bespoke flooring renovation at a family-run bakery in Staffordshire.
The bakery produces over two billion biscuits a year from its facility. Famous for its malted milk, it also makes custard creams, chocolate oaties and many more, serving the own label supermarket sector.
As part of a £1m investment programme to improve operational efficiency the company required a flooring refresh.
Kemtile provided bespoke, hygienic and high-performance flooring designed to meet the demanding requirements of modern food manufacturing facilities, including chemical, impact and abrasion resistance.
George Morton, project lead for Kemtile, said the flooring was a critical element of the renovation work. He commented: “We had to show a detailed understanding of the business’s operational needs as well as the baking industry’s legislative requirements and worked closely with the customer to deliver against a challenging timescale.”
Kemtile specified high-impact resistant mortar flooring solution Stonclad UF and laid it over 500m2. This was paired with Stonset TG5, a three-component epoxy grout, to provide exceptional resistance to heavy-duty production processes as well as effective chemical resilience.
Stonproof CT5, a two-component, flexible membrane designed to isolate dynamic cracks in flooring, was then installed and the floor was completed with a two-component polyurethane sealant, to provide even greater flexibility and durability.
George Morton again: “The company quickly secured HACCP approval, ensuring it was compliant with all regulatory requirements, and we had the job done in just 18 days.”
The speed of turnaround enabled the bakery to install new production line equipment at the earliest opportunity.

George again: “We know that we must minimise disruption and downtime. Being part of a wider renovation programme gave us a short window to deliver the best possible floor designed to meet the unique challenges of high-volume biscuit manufacture.
He added: “Compliance with exacting health and safety standards and greater operational efficiency start with hygienic flooring solutions. Our highly skilled technical and install teams work together to provide single source, durable, high performing floors on time and on budget.”
