ESP32-S3-WROOM-1U is a group of high-performance, versatile communication modules supporting WiFi 2.4GHz (802.11b/g/n) and Bluetooth 5 (BLE, or Bluetooth Low Energy). They come from the offer of the well-known and respected brand Espressif.
The presented products are based on a dual-core SoC (System on a Chip) ESP32-S3, providing a rich selection of peripherals, interfaces, and high computing power. The applied system includes a 32-bit, dual-core Xtensa® LX7 microprocessor with a floating-point unit (single precision). It is clocked at up to 240MHz, has 384kB of integrated ROM memory and 512kB of SRAM memory. In addition to standard communication methods (SPI, UART, I2C), it also supports I2S (audio transmission), USB 2.0 OTG (On-The-Go, meaning it can operate in both host and peripheral mode), has parallel interfaces for cameras and LCD matrices, and also allows direct connection to SD cards (SDIO). Complementing such impressive functionality are GPIO pins (36 lines), ADC converters, temperature and touch sensor, PWM generator, timers, and watchdog circuit. Depending on the model, the user has access to 4MB to 16MB of FLASH (program) memory and 2MB or 8MB of PSRAM memory, allowing for fairly complex and autonomous functions.
The ESP32-S3-WROOM-1U module requires an operating voltage of 3.0…3.6V DC, making it excellently suited for use in all mobile applications. Moreover, the allowable operating temperature range extends from -40°C to 85°C.
The manufacturer emphasizes that thanks to its computational parameters and communication characteristics, its product will be an ideal choice for implementing devices in the field of AIoT, the dynamically developing domain of Artificial Intelligence of Things. Such projects include smart homes, industrial and consumer automation, modern agriculture. Support with artificial intelligence technologies is increasingly used also in audio devices and commercial equipment (POS terminals, point of sale).
To ensure minimal size, protect the circuit from interference (shielded housing), and improve wireless transmission, the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1U does not have an integrated antenna – instead, a coaxial connector in the popular U.FL/MHF I/AMC standard is placed on the board.
