Business Improvement Manager, Fraser Wilkinson at Tata Steel will talk at the LMJ OpEx conference in May about the real life and up to the minute case study on the company and the reasons leading up to the much publicised outcome.
Fraser’s highly interactive workshop examine some of the reasons for the problems at Tata steel and will help demonstrate a world-class approach to analyse both the process and people issues that contributed to the outcome.
Tata Steel fell victim to a global economic slowdown and with growth in China falling from double digit figures to around 7%, making losses of up to £1 million per day in the UK. It employs over 15,000 people with a further estimated 25,000 relying on Tata Steel for downstream employment, all of which are under threat if a rescue package is not agreed.
Fred Tongue, editor of the Lean Management Journal and chair of the conference said ‘we are delighted that Tata Steel can give us a first-hand insight into the problems that the company has experienced and how these may be overcome in the months and years to come. There is much that can be learned from Tata Steel’s experience operating as a global player in a global market place with such intense international competition’.
Grant Collier from Hennik Research said ‘it is important that a solution to Tata’s problems is found as this affects a significant number of people, particularly in the run up to potentially more economic disruption with the EU Referendum on the horizon’.
Alongside Tata Steel, the vice president of McDonald’s will also give an inspirational talk on the importance of staff training, retention and investment – key to the successful development of the UK’s 100,000 strong workforce in this fast food retailer.
The conference amongst a long list of speakers will also include senior personnel from Kellogg’s, Fujifilms, HSBC, the National Grid, Volvo and Philips speaking on the leadership problems faced by an organisation, how to define the culture and why ‘Leading with Lean’ is the best way to engage people, lean manufacturing and operational excellence. The LMJ OpEx conference takes place 11-12 May, Hilton Hotel Heathrow, Terminal 5. More information from www.lmjopexannualconference.com
