At last week’s Manufacturing Technologies (MACH) event, Impact Technical Services, the UK leaders in dust, fume and mist extraction, continued its drive to improve awareness on local exhaust ventilation (LEV) laws, as stipulated in the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations.
Over 17,500 manufacturing companies that attended the event had little or no knowledge about the LEV legislation that is designed to protect employees against harmful fumes or dust, highlighting a major knowledge gap within the manufacturing industries.
Tony Bosworth, Operations Director at Impact Technical Services shares his comments with grave concern:
“As part of our MACH debut, we had expected to support manufacturers in answering questions around effective LEV systems. We were extremely shocked to find that approximately 70 percent of the manufacturers that attended the show knew very little about LEV legislation, and the fact that they can be prosecuted or fined between £1-25K for non-compliance.
“During the five-day event, we educated a large number of delegates who were grateful to be provided with information about simple steps to take in order to be compliant, inviting them all to take advantage of our free workplace extraction assessment.”
