Innovate UK runs funding competitions which can help you develop your idea and make it successful.
Compound semiconductor applications
Innovate UK is inviting businesses to apply for a share of £4 million to develop innovative new applications for compound semiconductors.
Compound semiconductors are at the heart of many of the devices we use today. This can include smartphones, tablets and satellite communication systems. They are central, for example, to the development of the 5G network and the next generation of electric vehicles.
Since 2000, the UK has invested nearly £750 million in the development of compound semiconductors. The global market is forecast to grow to around £125 billion by 2025. The UK is well placed to exploit this growing market.
The aim of this competition is to make sure that UK businesses can respond to market opportunities in this area. We are looking for proposals with large and scalable commercial potential. This will be in areas such as power electronics, RF/microwave, photonics and sensors.
Robotics and autonomous systems applications
Innovate UK and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council(EPSRC) are to invest up to £5 million in robotics and autonomous systems (RAS) projects.
We are looking for proposals that will speed up the development of RAS technologies towards demonstration and commercialisation.
Robots that are independent of human control can learn, adapt and take decisions. These could revolutionise our economy and society over the next 20 years. Disruptive technologies related to RAS include mobile internet, automation of knowledge work, advanced robotics, and automated and autonomous vehicles.
Low emission freight and logistics trial
The Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) and Innovate UK are to invest up to £24 million to enable industry-led research trials and development of innovative vehicles or on-vehicle technology. These need to provide real-world emissions reductions. This is for the freight, logistics, utilities and emergency industries.
Heavy-goods vehicles and vans contribute 31% of the UK’s domestic transport greenhouse gas emissions. The aim of this competition is to encourage the widespread introduction of low emission vehicles to UK fleets. This will help the UK meet its CO2 reduction targets. It will also help reduce other emissions and reduce fleet operating costs.
