Rotech, the Hertfordshire designer of end-to-end coding and feeding systems recently pledged its commitment to bridging the engineering skills gap, announcing that it plans to recruit three new apprentices into its rapidly expanding business in the next 12-months.
Joining the apprenticeship world is a big step for Rotech. The SME company, which was founded in 1997, currently employs just 15 people and regards its compact size as an innovation advantage. Yet, with demand for its online and offline coding machines rising, and having doubled its production footprint in 2015, Rotech feels that the time is right to invest in its future talent.
To unveil the plans and gauge the interest of upcoming school leavers, Rotech recently hosted a school visit. On Thursday 10th November, they welcomed ten year 11 students from Marlborough Science Academy based in nearby St Albans, and the company has subsequently received several serious applications from those eager to pursue a career with the successful SME. Rather than conducting formal interviews, Rotech is inviting the candidates and their parents to the workplace. “By engaging the parents we hope to further dispel the myth that apprenticeships are a secondary choice to university,” says Rotech’s Managing Director Chris Baker. “If they are all still interested, we will offer a full day’s work placement to see how well each candidate fits into our business.”
