Leading powder coatings company Thermaset Limited has been awarded the prestigious ISO 14001: 2004 accreditation after placing environmental management at the heart of its business.
The Staffordshire-based company, which has been established more than 30 years, believes that the accreditation will have major benefits commercially, as well as enhancing its environmental footprint.
Frank Savage, Thermaset Quality Assurance and Health and Safety Technical Manager, commented: “ISO 14001: 2004 is an internationally agreed standard that sets out the requirements for an effective environmental management system.
“It provides a framework for businesses to put into practice and improve their environmental performance by meeting the exacting standards of the accreditation. This is achieved through the ongoing evaluation of working practices by management and by educating employees to become more aware of the need to do this.
“Over a period of 10 months we looked at our working practices and how we could address all environmental issues relating to the business including air pollution, waste management and water and sewage issues,” he said.
There are commercial benefits of 14001: 2004 accreditation which help provide a competitive advantage through the improvement of efficiencies within the business. Frank commented: “It has, and will continue to have, a positive effect on Thermaset through a reduction in costs achieved through management policies that have helped improve efficiencies across the whole of the business.
“We may be the only medium sized manufacturing company within the powder coatings industry that currently has ISO 14001: 2004 and this will hopefully enhance our prospects of winning contracts from larger companies who look to suppliers with this,” he concluded.
