Express Engineering Showcasing Complex Metal Alloy Precision Machining Capabilities at DSEI 2017

Express Engineering, a long established international UK contractor to the land, sea and air defence industry, is promoting its precision machining capabilities and specialist services at DSEI 2017 (stand S2-321). Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI), which this year runs from 12-15 September at the London ExCeL exhibition centre in Docklands, is regarded as the leading UK event where customers and suppliers from the global defence and security industry bi-annually come together to promote the latest innovations and share knowledge.

During DSEI, Express Engineering will be showcasing its extensive range of high quality manufacturing services, which are provided to major aerospace and defence OEMs as well as manufacturing companies in other industrial sectors needing complex, high performance metallic parts, such as nuclear, oil and gas, power generation, and marine markets.

Express Engineering has over 40 years of proven engineering expertise and capabilities in producing close tolerance, precision machined, metal parts up to 6m long and 2m in diameter, manufactured from castings, bar stock, forgings or hipped forgings. The company specializes in manufacturing large, complex geometry components, which are typically machined from a heat resistant or high performance ‘exotic’ material such as: nickel super alloys; duplex and super duplex; cobalt, titanium and nickel-chromium-based Inconel super alloys. One off or multiple parts, integrated kits and complete assemblies are supplied in small to medium batches on a repeat project or continuous schedule demand basis.

Major investment of over £7.5 million in the last five years has seen the Express Engineering facilities, located in the Team Valley industrial estate, Gateshead, almost double to over 100,000 sq ft.             Today, Express Engineering has six production units, with dedicated specialist facilities operating ‘state-of-the-art’ CNC equipment, supported by a wealth of in-house engineering expertise. CAD/ CAM systems, along with 3D offline CMM inspection software, streamline the New Product Integration (NPI) process within the organisation. In addition the Assembly, Test and Cleanroom facilities provide a “One Stop Shop” solution for clients.

The broad spectrum of specialist manufacturing equipment and facilities includes: 2-5 axis conventional and CNC milling/boring/turning machines and CNC multi-tasking centres; specialist welding capabilities, such as weld overlay (hard facing/cladding) and butt welding; EDM spark and wire erosion machines; surface and cylindrical grinders; aerospace approved wash plant and clean room assembly facilities;  inspection and non-destructive examination equipment, including MP, LPI and UT, plus  hydraulic and gas pressure-testing rigs.

In June 2016, Express Engineering secured a major three year contract from Rolls Royce Naval Marine to supply gas turbine casings for its MT30 marine engines, supplied to the US Navy. The company has vendor approvals from a variety of leading OEM companies including: UTC Aerospace, Bombardier, Rolls Royce Aerospace, Babcock, Siemens, and Rolls Royce Nuclear, supplying a wide range of components and assemblies, via scheduled supply agreement or individual orders. As part of its vendor management systems for the defence sector, Express Engineering has embedded security controls to ensure full confidentiality in both UK and international programmes; these include The International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and specific customer requirements, which are all independently assessed.

Paul Ellison, Sales Manager, for Express Engineering, who will be on the stand during the exhibition, commented: “We feel confident that we can build upon our existing reputation as a reliable, high quality supplier to the aerospace and defence market. DSEI is the ideal place to showcase our capabilities, meet new and existing customers, and secure new business. We are particularly interested to meet manufacturing companies looking for components and assemblies used in gas turbine engines, radars, missiles, actuator systems, aircraft, submarines, fighting vehicle drivetrains, gun turret bodies and munitions related hardware.”

All of Express Engineering’s six production facilities operate according to BSI accredited ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 and hold BSI EN 9100:2009 and AS9100 Rev C quality standard certifications.  The company is ADS-ASCS accredited as a quality assured supplier.  For more information visit www.express-engineering.co.uk .
