Professor of Precision Metrology Dame Xiangqian Jiang has been conferred as a Companion by the Institute in recognition of her leadership and management skills
Quoted by the CMI as being someone who has ‘already made their mark’, Companions are leaders who throughout their careers, ‘have managed successful organisations and demonstrated exceptional management skills’.
Professor Dame Xiangqian Jiang will receive her award at a special ceremony in November.
Professor Jiang is the Research Director of the world-leading Centre for Precision Technologies and is one of the University’s most celebrated engineers.
Receiving Companionship status follows almost immediately after Professor Jiang received the honour of being appointed as one of the twelve strategic advisors who will form the EPSRC’s Strategic Advisory Network.
At the beginning of 2017, she was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List and was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to Engineering and Manufacturing.
In the same year, she also became the Director of the University’s £40 million EPSRC Future Metrology Hub. The vision of the Hub is to transform UK manufacturing through inter-disciplinary collaboration and it is one of only eight EPSRC-funded Future Manufacturing Research Hubs in the UK.
