Esteemed chemical engineer, Dame Judith Hackitt DBE FREng has been rewarded for her outstanding contribution to the engineering profession, with an Honorary Fellowship from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
Dame Judith was appointed as Chair of EEF in April 2016 and has held previous roles as Chair of the Health and Safety Executive (2007-2016) and served as a Commissioner (2002-2005).
Dame Judith is a chemical engineer and graduated from Imperial College in 1975. She worked in the chemicals manufacturing industry for 23 years before joining the Chemical Industries Association (CIA) in 1998.
She led the Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety commissioned by the Government following the Grenfell Tower fire and is now Chairing the steering group which will hold industry to account for delivery of the required culture change.
On receiving her Honorary Fellowship, Dame Judith said: “I feel very privileged to receive this Honorary Fellowship from the IET. I strongly support the work the IET is doing to change perceptions of engineering in today’s world and look forward to being engaged with this work.”

She is a highly distinguished engineer and has made a significant contribution to the industry as well as her impact on advancing the health and safety of the engineering profession.”
Dame Judith was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in July 2010 and is currently a member of the Board of Trustees. Dame Judith is also a Fellow of IChemE and served as President in 2013/14.
She is also Chair of SEMTA and a senior Non Exec Director of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult.
