Tray sealing specialist Proseal’s outstanding record of innovation has been recognised with a Food Processing Award 2018 in the category of Continuous Improvement.
Announced at the recent Appetite for Engineering event, the award reflects Proseal’s commitment to investment in research and development, which drives its continual introduction of new machines and technologies. As well as consistently breaking new ground in tray sealing, this enables the company’s food industry customers to respond quickly to changing market requirements.
Among the many innovations launched by Proseal in recent years, the company’s pioneering Eseal® technology delivers improved seal quality with a force increase of up to 200% while also reducing energy consumption. Its continuous motion tray infeed system, ProMotion, can increase the speed of a tray sealer by 25%.
Proseal’s innovations have helped to shape the direction of the food industry. For example, the company recently worked with tray manufacturers to develop a sealing system for a new generation of board-based MAP-capable food trays produced from sustainable cardboard that delivers optimal conservation of the packed product.
The company also developed the first machine to erect, fill and seal cardboard skillets for sandwiches, which has facilitated the move away from plastic packs for many leading retailers. In addition, Proseal’s advanced sealing technology has been behind the move in the soft fruit sector from clamshell and clip-on lids to thin top-sealed film for plastic punnets, reducing packaging materials by as much as 33%.
The Food Processing award comes as Proseal celebrates its 20th anniversary, a year in which the company has also received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade in recognition of its outstanding continuous growth over the last six years.
Steve Malone, Proseal’s Director, comments: “Innovation has been central to Proseal since the very beginning. Right from our first prototype machine, we have constantly looked to enhance our models and technology and keep pushing the boundaries of tray sealing.
“This wouldn’t be possible without a strong and dedicated team, and above all, it’s the talent and hard work of our people that awards like this recognise. As with the Queen’s Award, this will only spur us on to continue innovating and finding new ways to benefit our customers.”
