It offers a range of postgraduate Engineering programmes designed to enable you to achieve a work-based Master’s degree by studying part time online.
Professional Engineering MSc
Developed with the Engineering Council as part of the Engineering Gateway programme, this MSc Professional Engineering online degree is a highly flexible, work-based learning route to building evidence of further learning to support your application to become a Chartered Engineer (CEng).
It is recognised by a wide range of engineering institutions under the Engineering Council such as, IMechE (Institute of Mechanical Engineers) and IET (Institute of Engineering and Technology).
Professional development is an important part of this programme, involving mentoring and support from an experienced Chartered Engineer.
‘One subject areas we work on is engineering research into technical subjects and actually when we’ve had projects which work around work-based projects, the students have been able to demonstrate that their projects have an impact on the businesses that they work for and this in many cases had led to many people getting promoted or had different projects given to them that have changed their status within the work place’ – Justin Steele-Davis – Academic Lead Engineering
Advanced Materials and Additive Manufacturing
Additive manufacturing is an emerging advanced manufacture technology, sometimes referred to as 3D printing. Derby and the East Midlands are dominated by employment in advanced engineering and related industries, but there is a global lack of specialised graduates who can work in supply chain companies. Obtaining this accredited degree will provide you with a qualification recognised by employers internationally.
This Masters in Advanced Materials and Additive Manufacturing programme, accredited by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM³), is designed for both engineering graduates and as a conversion programme for students who have qualifications in other analytical disciplines* such as physics or geology, enabling them to transition to careers in advanced manufacturing and other high-tech industries.
