Bowman Power Group Ltd (Bowman) has won the award for New Product (Mechanical) of the Year at the British Engineering Excellence Awards (BEEAs) 2019.
The annual awards ceremony aims to champion and celebrate design innovation and excellence from across the UK. Hundreds of entries were debated and considered for the awards, with Bowman emerging top in their field.
Bowman was awarded this accolade for their Electric Turbo Compounding (ETC) technology, specifically their newest 3rd generation system, ETC 1000. Their entry focused on the considerable R&D effort required to create ETC 1000, and to achieve a 45% price reduction, compared with the previous generation, and compatibility with major OEM gensets of 400 kWe to 2.5 MWe.
ETC 1000 has been released to market and is already delivering considerable efficiency gains to its users by recovering exhaust gas waste heat and converting it to useful electricity. It can deliver up to 10% extra power and also a 23% reduction in greenhouse emissions, with a much lower cost per kWh generated than other energy recovery technologies.
Across ll their ETC products, Bowman has generated 750GWh of energy, without burning additional fuel, and saved over 400,000 tonnes of CO2.
Paul Dowman-Tucker, CEO of Bowman, commented “As just one of the many British companies working hard to ensure a net zero carbon future, it is a real privilege to receive this award from the BEEAs. It is a real testament to the hard work our team have put in to developing and evolving our ETC technology for more than 15 years.”
