DELBA Electrical is first to achieve NSK Certified Workshop status

The first company in the world to achieve the newly created NSK Certified Workshop status
is DELBA Electrical, a leading rebuilder and repairer of motors and generators based in
South Africa. A comprehensive audit and in-depth training programmes formed part of the
intensive process, which now means that DELBA Electrical is officially utilising best-in-
class standards for the fitting and application of NSK products.

DELBA Electrical is an international specialist in the repair, rewinding, service maintenance and
sale of rotating AC and DC electrical motors and generators for industries that include mining,
steel, petrochemical, power generation, paper and sugar. Established in 1963, the company offers
exemplary service to customers nationally in South Africa and across the wider African continent.
Skilled and committed technical field service teams travel and deliver services that include laser
alignment, vibration analysis, diagnostic testing, maintenance and emergency repairs. Although
this initiative is supported by highly experienced and dedicated personnel operating in fully
equipped and well organised workshops, DELBA Electrical knew its offer would be further
strengthened by applying for NSK Certified Workshop status.

The Certified Workshop programme, which has been specially derived by NSK Europe, is
designed for repairers and rebuilders of rotating electrical equipment; not just motors and
generators but including, gearboxes, compressors, blowers and pumps. Certified Workshop
ensures that genuine, factory-fresh NSK bearings are fitted as standard in all repair and rebuild
situations (unless the end user specifies otherwise), and that workshop processes meet stringent
NSK best practice standards for handling and mounting bearings. In addition, achieving the status
means that all repairs are documented and fully traceable.

At DELBA Electrical’s headquarters in Springs in the Gauteng Provence of South Africa, the
certification process involved a two-day audit of all the company’s working practices, especially
those involving the application and fitting of bearings, together with associated training
programmes. The company also took the opportunity, as part of the programme, to upgrade its
maintenance tools and test equipment to further improve its Field Service Team condition
monitoring capabilities. Support and training from NSK experts was provided to around 10 DELBA
technicians with regard to NSK’s CMS (Condition Monitoring Service), laser alignment and
dynamic balancing offer.

For DELBA Electrical, which is one the largest motor and generator rebuilding and repair
companies in South Africa, there are many benefits associated with achieving NSK Certified
Workshop status. For instance, DELBA now gets to promote the fact it is accredited to NSK
standards, a globally recognised mark of quality and best-in-class practices, thus providing
differentiation in the marketplace. Indeed, once approved, all repaired or rebuilt units are fitted with
a jointly branded Certified Workshop repair plate, promoting the fact that NSK products have been
selected and fitted according to NSK’s recommended standards.

Ultimately, Certified Workshop promotes a quality repair supported with quality NSK products. NSK
can report that a number of other companies are currently working towards the status and will be
announced in due course.
