The appointment of Andy Day at Wallwork Group to head up national sales of motorsport heat treatments underpins the increasing value of this highly specialised engineering requirement of top race teams.Andy, who is a huge fan of MotoGP and world superbikes, has quickly achieved the new position at Wallwork. He has also worked for Goodfellow Cambridge Ltd, a producer of precision foils from metals such as gold and platinum which are used in the medical industry as well as research and development.
“Until now I have been covering the South East for Wallwork’s commercial heat treatment services, so I am thrilled to have this new challenge specifically within motorsport. The company also provides extensive physical vapour deposited (PVD) coatings services to the autosports industry, so I am currently undergoing additional training and will add this to my remit,” enthused Andy.
Based at the company’s Cambridge site which specialises in PVD coatings, Andy will be working alongside technical director, Paul Towler, who is based at Wallwork’s Birmingham site and which leads in motorsport heat treatments. These two sites nicely sandwich most of the UK’s top race teams and race tracks, though Andy is quick to point out that he will also be visiting customers around the North West and North East where the company has two other sites.
Andy lives in Huntingdon, with his wife Katie and son Jaxon, aged two. Katie also works for Wallwork, reviewing aerospace and commercial contracts for the PVD and carbon coatings departments. However, there is no time for ‘talking shop’ at home as they are updating their house and Andy also keeps himself busy on his personal project of rebuilding a 24 year old Yamaha Thundercat sports touring motorcycle.
