GTMA member Menear Engineering produce tools for The Ventilator Scheme during Covid 19 Pandemic

Menear Engineering had previously made a medical tool for a moulding company in December 2019 was approached by Pete Lucas of Medical Moulded Products Ltd. Pete, in turn had been asked by Peter Weston of University College London (UCL) regarding producing components for the ventilators.

Menear were then asked to assist in the making of the mould tools for some of these vital components.

On 3rd April, they received the call and subsequent CAD files requesting samples should be made but on  a very tight deadline. At first it seemed an impossible task for the team at Menear, but they agreed to make a 2+2 impression and a 2 impression tool.

The mould sets were needed as soon as possible and in fact Menear designed the tools over the weekend. Bolster kits were orderd 8 AM monday from Bru y Rubio (also GTMA members) who advised that they had just received a consignment from spain.

We are very pleased to share that by Wednesday 8th April, UCL received the first samples of the flag moulding; by Saturday the 11th of April the first samples came off the press from the 2+2 tool.

After a little fine tuning over Easter Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday samples arrived at UCL Tuesday morning and were passed off at 2pm Tuesday 14th.
