Opening of facility in Coalville, Leicestershire, means customers can expect faster return of repaired drives to world class standards.
Reconditioning, repair, maintenance and upgrades are a handful of services now provided by ABB’s new dedicated, state-of-the-art Drives Service Workshop (DSW) located in Coalville, Leicestershire. The company already has a network of DSW’s around the world but, until now, any major servicing to variable speed drives (VSDs), reconditioning or the provision of exchange units was orchestrated by the global DSW in Helsinki, Finland.
Opening a centre in the UK significantly speeds up a host of services that includes replacement of all ageing components according to the maintenance schedule and replacement of defective components according to loading profile and condition. Also detailed failure analysis can be carried out to determine the causes of faults, providing customers with valuable insight into how downtime can be prevented. Customers can also take advantage of ABB’s hire drive service, in which an equivalent drive will be installed and commissioned to temporarily replace the one under repair.
Before a repair of a VSD, the DSW carries out basic electrical functionality checks, a visual inspection and complete cleaning. After repair, the VSDs are tested for functionality and at full load before being returned to a customer’s site with a comprehensive service report.
The centre stocks all VSD genuine ABB spare parts, the use of which ensures a VSD operates as designed. A one-year warranty is provided for all replaced components, with a two-year warranty for complete modules, subject to terms and conditions.
Anthony Rawson, ABB’s UK drives service manager says: “Our UK workshop is a dust-free environment and electro-static discharge protected. As such it offers the perfect facility to repair or fully maintain our customer’s drives. We are now well positioned to conduct a detailed failure analysis of a faulty drive, provide premium repairs and load testing to ensure full working order when its returned to the customer. At the same time, we can keep our customers operations Motion with our hire drives. If the drive is irreparable, we will arrange disposal and recycling according to local WEEE regulations.”
