RS Components brings smarter, safer EV charging to homes and offices using latest ABB technology

Presenting a versatile and convenient solution to encourage more widespread vehicle electrification

LONDON, UK, 27 January 2021RS Components (RS), a trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE: ECM), a global omni-channel solutions partner for industrial customers and suppliers, now offers ABB’s latest easy-to-implement electric vehicle (EV) charging solution. Building on ABB’s longstanding expertise in e-mobility charging, the Terra AC Wallbox is suitable for deployment in homes, offices and commercial locations such as retail sites or hotels. It is capable of delivering up to 22kW of power.

The compact wall-mounted unit measures just 320mm x 195mm x 110m and can accommodate both Type 1 and Type 2 connectors. It is offered with both wireline (Ethernet, RS485/P1 serial) and wireless (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 4G cellular) connectivity options – thereby facilitating integration with existing network infrastructure, as well as enabling remote control via a dedicated smartphone app. In addition to its built-in energy meter, there is also the capacity for interfacing with the energy management system of the building in which it is installed. Through this, dynamic load management activities may be supported, which means that the associated utility costs can be kept as low as possible.

ABB Terra AC Wallbox units come with either a 5m cable attached, or a Type 2 universal socket. They can be used in conjunction with a single-phase input supply (for 7.4kW output) or three-phase input supply (for 22kW output). In order to ensure ongoing user safety, sophisticated over-current, over-voltage, under-voltage and ground fault protection mechanisms have been incorporated, as well as surge protection functionality. IP54-rated, with robust NEMA-compliant enclosures and an operational temperature range of -35C to +50C, they can be situated in outdoor environments.

ABB’s Terra AC Wallbox units are shipping now from RS in the EMEA region.
