Optimas – Powered by Renewable Energy

In an effort to maximize sustainability, conform to ecological best practices and combat the effects of climate change, Optimas OE Solutions have announced that all the company’s UK manufacturing and distribution facilities are now either using 100% renewable green energy or, where not yet possible, offsetting carbon emissions.

Spearheaded by Optimas’ Global Director, for Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance, Robin Jackson and Martyn Johnson, Senior Director of Operations (International) – the company’s sustainability initiative first saw Optimas’ manufacturing facility, Barton Cold Form (Droitwich) lead the way, announcing in September 2020 that it was fully operating on renewable electricity. Barton is now joined by 4 distribution sites throughout the UK, including the UK headquarters in Gloucester.

Optimas have long maintained ISO 14001:2015 accreditation, a standard that requires the monitoring, assessment, and mitigation of the business’ impact on the wider environment and, with awareness at an all-time high, sustainability is playing a key role in the way companies operate. The focus is firmly on industry to play a crucial role in addressing ways of protecting our natural environment and human and ecological health, while continuing to drive innovation.

Robin Jackson comments: “There is an urgent need to end the reliance on fossil fuel and for the adoption of renewable energy, particularly in industry. As a major UK manufacturer and distributor, Optimas is proud to be proactive about this issue – switching to clean energy is about tackling climate change but also ensuring that we invest in future generations.”

Not only are Optimas facilities operating using renewable electricity, but the company continues to actively identify further areas of improvement – converting existing lighting to LED / energy saving systems, using carbon offset gas supplies and recycling over 89% of waste materials (with zero waste sent to landfill). Through these steps, Optimas continues to demonstrate their commitment to a greener, more sustainable future.
