~ Specialist extends its off-the-shelf range of high energy, slimline batteries ~
Professional battery manufacturer Accutronics is now offering four new pre-engineered Thin Cell® 3V primary (non-rechargeable) batteries to electronic design engineers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the UK, Ireland and Europe. Manufactured by its parent company, UltralifeCorporation, the new slimline batteries measure as thin as 1.1mm to meet the increasing demand for handheld and wearable electronic devices.
Whilst Ultralife recognize that some compact devices have limited space for a battery, so continue to offer custom-sized Thin Cells®, the new additions join five cells that are available off-the-shelf to help OEMs meet more common space requirements.
The expansion comes at a time when both standard and custom-sized Thin Cells® are in demand for professional and consumer applications where a non-rechargeable high energy, slim and safe battery is required. This includes handheld devices used in asset tracking, data logging and smart security, as well as wearable devices used in medical environments for remote patient monitoring.
Each Thin Cell® boasts a high energy density, provides a stable 3V discharge and utilizes Ultralife’s medical and military proven lithium manganese dioxide (Li-MnO2) chemistry.
The new additions include: the CP114951, which occupies a 51.0mm x 48.8mm footprint with a 1.1mm thickness and a 0.38Ah nominal capacity; the 30.0mm x 11.2mm and 3.2mm thick CP301030, and the CP301322, which is the most lightweight addition with its 22.5mm x 13.5mm footprint, 3.2mm thickness and 1.1g weight.
The final addition is the CP603145, which is the largest of the range at 45.0mm x 31.0mm, 6.2mm thickness and 15.7g weight. This slightly larger footprint is coupled with a higher operating temperature range from -20 to +80 degrees Celsius (compared to -20 to +60 degrees Celsius for the other three cells), making it a prime choice for larger applications with higher power demands where size and weight are important, but less of a premium.
“Electronic devices have been shrinking at an ever-increasing rate over the last decade, which is why Ultralifedeveloped Thin Cell® battery technology back in 2012,” explained Robert Brown, marketing executive at Accutronics and Ultralife Corporation. “However, particularly in the past year, we have seen the market change in unexpected ways, with asset tracking tags and wearable medical devices becoming more widely-used.
“Every wearable or handheld device is dependent on an effective underlying battery that offers reliable performance. The new additions to the Thin Cell® range allow us to continue to support OEMs to develop increasingly compact and lightweight devices, without sacrificing power performance.”
Further assistance is available for OEMs with bespoke compact battery requirements via. an online tool on the Ultralife website. Once the user has entered their required dimensions, the online tool will calculate the resulting capacity, discharge rate and more. This can then be downloaded as a document that can be presented to management in development meetings.
