BPMA Golf Day – the results! #Engineering #WelshNationalCourse #ShotManagement #NaturalHazards

Held at the stunning Vale Resort in Glamorgan on 1st September, the Welsh National course produced a real challenge for the teams. With less reliance on sand traps than other courses, shot management proved to be the deciding factor in trying to negotiate unforgiving fairways, with both water and natural hazards.

In a slight amendment to this event’s popular Texas Scramble format, some very close scores were achieved, with some surprising results too. Each team had to declare 4 tee shots used by each player instead of the more usual 3 shots. This slight change saw only 2 spare tee shots available to each team as opposed to 6 in previous years, and by all accounts this adjustment lent itself to a more bonded team experience, with less reliance on any one particular player.

After an initial team briefing by BPMA CEO, Steve Schofield and the obligatory Tea, Coffee and Bacon Rolls, the players set off to collect their buggies which this year came with sat nav and a digital course map. Team photos were taken on the first tee, and throughout the day a short video was produced, capturing the highlights of the day. The final cut will be available on the BPMA website shortly.

Sponsored by Flowserve, Stuart Turner, ABB, Reflex Winkelman and WEG UK, the event concluded with a delicious evening meal and short prize giving. Team Grundfos took the overall prize, pipping a team from Stuart Turner to the top spot with the Calpeda B team taking third place. The association’s own Steve Schofield won the nearest the pin competition while ABB’s Dave Hawley achieved the longest drive of the day.

The 2023 BPMA Golf Day will see a return to Wychwood Park, the 7213-yard European PGA Tour course in Cheshire.
