BG Engineering, a leading subcontractor of precision machined components, based in Chesterfield, is celebrating after winning the Excellence in Manufacturing Award at the 2018 Derbyshire Times Business Awards.

BG Engineering was announced as the winner of the Excellence in Manufacturing Award, which is presented to the company that shows a modern, efficient and innovative approach to manufacturing, during a glittering ceremony at Chesterfield College on 15th November.

Now in their tenth year, the awards aim to recognise and celebrate the very best in local business and commerce.

The company’s Managing Director Antony Holmes and Business Development Manager Fabio Cosenza, attended the event, which was hosted by Dronfield entrepreneur Jessica Cunningham, star of TV show The Apprentice.

Antony Holmes, said: “Being named as the Excellence in Manufacturing Award winners is the perfect finish to what has been a fantastic 30th anniversary year for BG Engineering. This award is testament to our highly skilled team that works extremely hard to deliver quality engineering solutions, and it is thanks to them all that the business continues to grow.”

From its beginnings in 1988, BG Engineering has become one of the region’s leading sole CNC machining companies, with more than 30 staff including four apprentices and 18 CNC machines, and boasting customers across the UK and Europe.

Over the past 30 years, the company has elevated itself into one of the leading precision engineers in the region. Through strategic and customer driven investment BG Engineering has built relationships with some of the largest global OEM’s in the energy industry.

BG Engineering prides itself on its approach to quality and inspection. The company is ISO 9001 accredited and is focused on continual improvement by having its own in-house inspection department to ensure that all parts reach the customer ‘right first time.’

The company has also recently secured AS9100 accreditation, the international management system standard for the Aircraft, Space and Defence (AS&D) industry.

The achievement follows a rigorous external audit of BG Engineering’s QMS (Quality Management System) by Lloyds Register of Quality Assurance’s (LRQA) external board to ensure the company adheres to the strict procedures within the scope of the standard.

BG Engineering is a member of a number of aerospace industry bodies including the EEF NDI, Midlands Aerospace and the North West Aerospace Alliance.

Cooper Brown Enterprises (CBE), owned by Marie Cooper and Chris Brown, invested in BG Engineering in 2017. BG Engineering, which is also co-owned by Managing Director, Antony Holmes, then acquired Pentag Gears and Oilfield Equipment in May 2018. In August 2017, CBE also acquired a controlling stake in NiTEC UK Ltd and Spire Laboratories.
