- Industry’s first installations of both 9g and 16g mini-base seating
- Mini-base creates a sleek pedestal look that enhances the passenger experience
- Creates a sense of space and open volume specifically requested by design firms
LAS VEGAS (Oct. 22, 2019) – Jet Aviation has awarded Collins Aerospace Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), seating contracts for three undisclosed V/VIP customers. Collins Aerospace will provide each customer single and double executive seating, as well as VIP divan products. The single seats will feature the company’s new, patented, track-mounted mini-base technology, which provides approximately 50 percent space savings when compared to a traditional seat base.
Two of the awards are for Airbus A320 aircraft and will feature the 9g mini-base seat. The 16g seat will be installed on a Dreamliner 787. Both will be industry-first installations following recent product certifications.
The key feature of the innovative mini-base seat is that the traditional seat base is reduced to a low-profile, track-mounted pedestal that gives the impression the seat is floating within the cabin. The mini-base installs directly onto the aircraft seat track with no need of an additional pallet. The space saving feature enhances design opportunities and provides passengers with more freedom to move around the cabin, and also reduces weight.
The improved styling gives the seats a more modern look while introducing new passenger comfort features. Through its modular design, the seat provides numerous configuration possibilities and extensive options, including armrest/headrest design, upholstery choices, mechanical or electrical operation, and comfort features such as massage or heating.
“Our new mini-base seating provides designers and customers for all aircraft types sleeker installations and a more open cabin,” said Ian Webb, vice president of Sales & Marketing for Executive Aircraft Interiors at Collins Aerospace. “We are looking forward to working with Jet Aviation to launch these programs.”
According to Peter Balzer, Jet Aviation’s vice president of Regional Supply Chain Management EMEA, “We are pleased to collaborate with Collins Aerospace to offer our mutual customers new seating options and offerings. Collins Aerospace is a long-standing and trusted partner of Jet Aviation. We know we can rely on their innovative and market-leading technologies to further enhance seating comfort in cabin interiors and appreciate their full support in meeting our often challenging delivery dates.”
“The new seats are the result of a close collaboration between Jet Aviation Supply Chain Management and Collins,” added Jeremie Caillet, vice president of VIP Completion Programs for Jet Aviation. “We are delighted to be able to provide customers with these industry firsts and all of the design and technological advantages that go with them.”
In addition to the seating award for these V/VIP aircraft, Collins Aerospace is also providing lighting, galley and insert products from its Interiors portfolio.
