RS Components launches next generation of compact, low-cost, high-spec RF signal generators

New touchscreen GUI, complex digital modulation and output up to 3GHz

RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE: ECM), a global multi-channel provider of industrial and electronic products and solutions, has introduced a new generation of radio-frequency (RF) signal generators from Aim-TTi, providing high performance and functionality without the price tag normally associated with a leading manufacturer. Aimed at industrial electronics design, test and service engineers, the TGR2050 Series combines high-frequency accuracy and stability with low phase noise, a wide output amplitude range and extensive digital modulation capabilities.

The Aim-TTi TGR2050 Series comprises two models — the TGR2051 and TGR2053 — with output frequency ranges from 150kHz up to 1.5GHz and 3GHz, respectively. Both models offer 1ppm frequency accuracy, frequency stability to within 1ppm drift over the first year, and phase noise less than –117dBc/Hz (typical) at 1GHz output and 10kHz offset. Output amplitude range is from –127dBm to +13dBm, with setting resolution of 0.1dBm.

To test a wide range of input conditions quickly and efficiently, the TGR2051 and TGR2053 can perform fast amplitude and frequency sweeps with 5ms sweep settling time. Formula specifics include start and stop values and dwell time following SYNC at each point. Sweeps can be run in either direction, with linear or logarithmic spacing. Alternatively, a list mode can be used to analyse responses at set frequencies and amplitude — useful for testing at known problem frequencies.

Besides internal or external analogue modulations (AM, FM, PM), the TGR2050 Series can offer an extensive range of built-in complex digital modulations. The TGR-U01 option adds FSK, GFSK, MSK, GMSK, HMSK, 3FSK, 4FSK, PSK, ASK and OOK, with built-in NRZ patterns including square wave and 7-, 9-, 11- or 15-bit PRBS. Advanced filtering options include Gaussian, raised cosine, root raised cosine and half sine. External digital modulation signals can be applied via a MOD in/out on the rear panel.

The TGR2051 and TGR2053 feature a new intuitive user interface operated via an integrated 4.3-inch colour touchscreen, which displays key information alongside readings. The instruments are SCPI compatible and can be programmed via USB, LAN (LXI) and, optionally, GPIB.

TGR2050 Series signal generators are packaged in a small-footprint (2U ½ rack) case and weigh just 3kg. Compatibility with previous Aim-TTi RF generators allows easy integration into existing systems.

The TGR2050 Series of signal generators is shipping now from RS in the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions.
