~ Improving power quality in pumping stations ~
Power quality specialist CP Automation will exhibit its extensive range of metering and mitigation devices at the Water Equipment Show 2023, which is being held at the Telford International Centre, Telford, UK on May 11, 2023. On Stand F64, visitors can learn how to protect pumping stations and peripheral equipment from supra-harmonics and noise — both problems can cause critical power outages if they are not addressed.
Pumping stations require electrical equipment such as motors, variable speed drives (VSDs) and alarm and ventilation systems. These devices all consume a significant amount of power, and are vulnerable to noise and other power quality issues from the earthing system and mains supply.
To demonstrate its products and services in support of better power quality, CP Automation will be exhibiting fixed metering equipment that it supplies from Powerside and Janitza, as well as portable meters from Chauvin Arnoux and A-Eberle. The stand will also feature SineTamer voltage surge suppression devices and harmonic filters from COMSYS and Revcon, also from its product portfolio. Together, these devices can detect and resolve potentially damaging harmonic voltage distortion, helping ensure uptime.
As well as exploring the different devices that help protect pumping stations, visitors can attend a talk by John Mitchell, CP Automation’s global sales & marketing director, on the topic of supra-harmonics and its impact on pumping station equipment. The talk will explore what supra-harmonics are, how operators and power quality engineers can measure them, and how to resolve these issues.
“Pumping stations account for nearly 20 per cent of the world’s electrical energy demand, and power quality is critical to maintaining uptime in these often-remote facilities,” said Mitchell. “We’ve seen a growth in outages in recent years and, for many operators, a lack of knowledge around issues like supra-harmonics puts sites at risk.
“CP Automation offers a holistic approach, which involves measuring and analysing a device’s power quality, before reporting this back to the customer and solving it using supporting mitigation equipment,” continued Mitchell. “We’re continuing to expand into the pumping station market, and the Water Equipment Show 2023 is a great opportunity for us to reach out to the wider industry.”
