The sustainable use of energy will be one of the key themes of 2014, as both the domestic and commercial market look to strike the right balance between going green and saving money.
That is the message from Martin Wardell, the Managing Director and driving force of one of the UK’s largest independent metering specialists.
At the helm of Birmingham-based MWA Technology, the former Chemical Engineer is well placed to pick out industry trends and believes the ongoing desire for greener and more cost effective energy has to start with being able to measure how your home, office or factory is performing.
“We all understand the need to move towards more sustainable energy, but you can’t just jump on the bandwagon without understanding how you can get the best results,” explained Martin, who started the business from his home in 1993.
“Getting the right meter put in place to measure oil, gas, water, steam and energy is essential and we pride ourselves on making sure our technical experts get under the skin of our clients and provide the right solutions.”
He continued: “£500,000 has been spent on creating a state-of-the-art logistics warehouse and a network of approved suppliers, including industry-leading brands like Kamstrup, Elster, Common, Diehl, Arad and Itron.”
MWA Technology, which employs 28 people at its facility on the Wharton Street Industrial Estate, will be showcasing its products and services at Sustainability Live 2014.
Technical experts will be on hand to discuss metering problems and issues, whether it is a domestic diaphragm meter or the commercial applications of automatic meter reading, data logging and installation commissioning.
The company will also be promoting the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), a Government programme aimed at financially incentivising home owners, businesses and organisations to use renewable energy systems as a way of heating their properties.
Martin continued: “We have been at the forefront of RHI and all of our technicians are trained in installation and helping our clients get the best out of it.
“Our involvement in Ofgem will help us influence the future direction of the scheme and iron out any initial issues.”
MWA Technology, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2013, currently supplies electric, gas, oil, water and energy meters to distributors, contractors, OEMs and energy monitoring professionals across the UK.
A significant investment programme in specialist testing equipment has seen the company achieve record sales of £4m and create five new positions across the business.
