Cliff is a renowned British manufacturer specializing in audio, industrial, and optoelectronic components, including high-quality connectors and fiber optic transmitters/receivers. This last group includes Toslink optical connectors, which have recently been added to TME’s offer.
Toslink optical connectors are a popular standard for transmitting digital audio signals using fiber optics. They were developed by Toshiba in the 1980s (the name Toslink comes from Toshiba Link). To this day, this standard is often used in audio equipment because it allows for lossless signal transmission, which remains immune to electromagnetic interference – and as a result, guarantees the highest possible sound quality.
Toslink connectors are characterized by simple construction, reliability, and ease of installation, with a distinction between transmitter jacks (OTJ, Optical Transmitter Jack ) and receiver jacks (ORJ, Optical Receiver Jack ). Both types are part of Cliff’s offerings. Additionally, the supplier offers integrated connectors. The first combine fiber optic functionality with a standard 3.5mm Jack socket (such solutions were successfully used, among others, in portable MiniDisc devices). The second enclose Toslink and RCA sockets in one body. Such elements facilitate the design and production of circuits for the home electronics industry, as well as professional audio devices.
