Witches’ Hat filters, also known as commissioning strainers or temporary strainers, are used to remove particulates from fluids in many applications in the oil & gas, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, amongst others.

Witches’ hats can be manufactured from woven wire mesh materials or coarse perforated steel with no mesh liner.

Strainers can be pointed or truncated (top hat filters), when space is a concern and are available in sizes ranging from 1/2″ to 24″.

Where a mesh liner is required, the aperture size can range from a few microns to millimetres and can be configured for out-to-in flow or in-to-out flow.

Croft Filters Ltd’s custom manufacturing allows for variations in design and customers can stipulate materials to be used ranging from stainless steel to hastalloy.

The combined filter unit can be designed to deliver maximum flow area and advice can be given for build strength requirements.
