Hannover. Fast and crisp 3D scans, surface coating via flamethrower, wireless and mobile monitoring, or online sourcing. Whoever is interested in innovation in industry will find inspiration at the 150 startups exhibiting at Young Tech Enterprises in Hall 3 at HANNOVER MESSE. The Fraunhofer Venture, the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT) and the Leibniz Association are also present with select spin-offs and research projects, while Ernst & Young, Siemens and Partner Country Poland organize group exhibits.
“More and more startups are interested in connecting with industry and thus are exhibiting at the Young Tech Enterprises area at HANNOVER MESSE. This is clear when looking at the number of individual exhibitors, which has increased by more than 30,” says Sonia Wedell-Castellano, Global Director Research & Technology at Deutsche Messe. “The companies present a diverse range of concepts, innovations and products that can be used in many different industry sectors.”
The 3D Scanner from Botspot (Stand C16), for example, is a world first thanks to a unique zoom-tilt technology. The 64 photo sensors automatically align themselves with the respective size of the object to be scanned; the cameras tilt themselves to the appropriate angle and then zoom in, delivering fast, vivid 3D images.
Fabrikado (Stand D14) operates an online sourcing platform for parts made of various materials. Customers submit their requirements using an online calculator. In real time, the portal matches orders to the free capacity of its certified supplier pool and returns immediate offers. The process eliminates time-consuming searches for suppliers.
Orokoko (Stand D16) is developing a robust cooling unit that works without harmful, poisonous or combustible refrigerants. Unique is the rotary piston compressor that generates the cold with air. One usage example: Operators of air conditioning systems for electrical cabinets can achieve fail-proof, low-maintenance and environmentally sound cooling.
VEN-TEC Solutions (Stand B06) provides mobile powder coating without a painting facility. A flame-spraying device distributes molten polymer particles onto a preheated surface; the polymer and the surface then combine to form a finished thermoplastic polymer coating. Fields of application include battery containers, concrete and water tanks, industrial floors, ductwork or wind turbines.
The monitoring kit from VIRTENIO (Stand C23) consists of a sensor cube, a GPRS gateway and web analysis products that transmit sensor data wirelessly and securely into the cloud. Users can access this data from a smartphone or PC at any time, which makes logistics processes more transparent and production runs more flexible. For example, values in remote locations can be metered via radio.
Forum program: All about the startup scene
Company founders, industry representatives and thought leaders speak about a broad range of startup topics at the Young Tech Enterprises forum. At the session “SMEs and Startups, Chances and Challenges of Cooperation”, for example, the German Startups Association explains that cooperation between startups and SMEs will soon intensify because both sides will profit from working together.
At “Perfect Pitch – How to Convince Customers and Partners of Your Business Idea!”, organized by the Foundation for Technology, Innovation and Research Thüringen (STIFT), audience members learn how to win over investors and partners in three minutes.
MotionMiners, a startup initiative of the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML, entertains the audience with “Between Hope and Despair – The Life of a Dortmund Startup”. Whether “pitching from the storage room” or “quitting without confirmation of funding”, the team provides an honest behind-the-scenes look at a startup from the Ruhr Valley.
The competition “Startup Pitch @ Young Tech Enterprises” features 40 young companies competing for prize money as well as potential customers, investors, partners and media attention.
The German Startups Association (BVDS) and the PR agency factum are executive partners of Young Tech Enterprises. Comau, Hannover Impuls, Lenze and the German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (VDMA) are partners.
