AWARD WINNING VELDEN ENGINEERING MOVES TOWARDS INDUSTRY 4.0 with the UK’s first automated subcontract busbar facility Velden Engineering, established in 1973, is a 100% family owned subcontract engineering firm with a proud reputation for delivering the most challenging specifications worldwide to an array of blue chip customers in a variety of industry sectors. What sets Velden apart from other subcontract engineering firms is their ability to provide a single source production facility on account of the various add-on services they offer.
Their product range covers anything from small turned items in high volume to precision machined components, all the way through to larger ASME IX
fabricated assemblies or fully built and tested systems with full certification. What sets Velden apart from other subcontract engineering firms is their ability to provide a single source production facility on account of the various add-on services they offer. Their product range covers anything from small turned items in high volume to precision machined components, all the way through to larger ASME IX fabricated assemblies or fully built and tested systems with full certification. Additional services include sub-assembly, finishing, testing and customised delivery and logistics packages. Velden are also adept at supplying copper busbars into the power generation and distribution industries and more recently have been involved in the development and supply of more specialist copper busbars to the motorsport industry.
Consistent investment in the latest production machinery, factory automation including multiple robot loading units, camera and laser vision inspection systems, intelligent energy saving LED factory lighting and solar generating technologies, ensures Velden remains at the forefront of the subcontract engineering industry. Further commitment to investing in the future is seen as Velden has made great strides towards becoming a truly modern smart factory in line with cutting edge Industry 4.0 methodologies. The company has further extended its in-house developed ERP system to incorporate IoT (Internet of Things), comprehensive machine tool monitoring and EDI direct data interchange with its customers.
Proof of Velden’s commitment to continuous improvement is seen with a significant investment in refurbishing its busbar production facility. The recent
addition of three brand new machines, a bespoke Professional Punching machine with 36 tools, gantry and integrated laser, a Professional Bending Machine and an automatic deburring and finishing machine have greatly reduced downtime for setting up and curtailed the number of processes required. When combined with the self- loading aspect, cost, production and quality efficiencies are greatly enhanced.
” The addition of this highly automated technology will ensure Velden are operating in a highly cost efficient way, allowing us to offer competitive pricing with first class quality and improved lead times.” Austin Kitchen Managing Director
